Preparation is not an end game.

Preparation is a process steadily maintained (C.S. Lewis). We’re always moving toward the next thing. If not our body, always our mind.

Are rest and preparation possible at the same moment? Consider the chef’s method of letting a steak “rest” before plating. As it sits static on the cutting board after being cooked, it’s actually very active inside, cooling to an ideal temperature (120-140°) so the juices have a chance to reabsorb and redistribute. The result is a juicy, rich steak for a pleasurable dining experience.

Physical rest allows the mind to reabsorb and redistribute as preparation is maintained. Take a nap, close your eyes, and let your mind prepare.
