360° View

We live in 3-D, so our design proposals should lift off the 2-D paper plain and consider our before, beside, and behind.

When evaluating a designed space, shift your body full circle to take in every view from 360°. Good design looks good from every visible perspective.

Take a look at how this works in nature. Walk outside to an area where there are little to no man-made structures. Stand in one spot in the middle of a field or forest. Rotate your body in brief increments to pause and take in the view. Chances are, every view feels right. It’s likely that your impulse to move a tree or shift a rock won’t emerge. Nature is good design.

Apply this experience to your home or work environment. How does your space feel from 360°? Move what can be moved. Nature is our precedent.
