Apologies shouldn’t be late.
What is the deadline for an apology? The moment an offense occurs, the stopwatch taps on. The muffled (but sometimes deafening) ticking sound of unforgiveness drones on until you press the apology button. The longer you hold onto it, the less creative and effective you are at work, the less compassionate you are with your family, and the less loving you are of yourself. So, be on time. One minute past the impulse of caring is late. But it’s not too late. The longer you wait, the less it will seem to matter. The less it will feel relevant. A sure sign that the dullness of apathy is settling in. Show up. Apologize now.
