City for Three Million.
In attempts to tamp down the chaos of the city, architects and engineers have, over the years, pitched the ideology of conformity. Le Corbusier’s Villa Contemporaine (1922) is a classic example of textbook ideology that proposes a single design to meet the needs of all people.
But if we assume that everyone’s ideal city is the same, we’re not recognizing the human need to be unique, to be one of a kind. Chaos releases creativity. Orderliness should provide just enough confidence to step into chaos with the hope to learn something new, to meet someone new, and to hear new ideologies.
